Blind Spot

Pastor Chip Kawalsingh

Psalm 28:7 (NLT) - The LORD is my strength and shield. I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving.

Life may not always work out the way you planned. There are moments when things can seemingly come from nowhere and cause trouble, turmoil and tears. When driving, there is something that is known as a blind spot, which means that for a moment, in a particular area, you cannot see what is coming. God is our help when things don’t go to plan, when our heroes let us down, when there’s no money coming in and when life just seems to stagnate. We have to remember He is always there!

Psalm 10:14 (NLT) - But you see the trouble and grief they cause. You take note of it and punish them. The helpless put their trust in you. You defend the orphans.

There will be times to guard what’s in your blind spot. What I mean by this is that God might bring a leader or pastor alongside to help you, even though you may not think you need it! These people are called by God and are there to watch over you for your own good. It could be about a relationship that is being formed that you’re not ready for or that might not be appropriate, or about a job that will take you out of Church or may potentially cause trouble to your marriage or your family, or something else. These are times when we really need to listen and obey.

Hebrews 13:17 (NLT) - Obey your spiritual leaders, and do what they say. Their work is to watch over your souls, and they are accountable to God. Give them reason to do this with joy and not with sorrow. That would certainly not be for your benefit.

The thing about a blind spot is this: although you cannot see the problem ahead, to others around you it seems very, very clear. It’s what is known as ‘seeing the big picture’. This view avoids blind spots and in that way avoids harm. A wise person is one who listens to advice and takes heed of the voice of wisdom. Wisdom is always around, shouting out, but the foolish never listen. When we listen to advice and take on board godly council then we avoid trouble, turmoil and tears.

Proverbs is a book of wisdom and understanding for daily living. I love the Message translation of this Proverb:

Proverbs 27:12 (MSG) - A prudent person sees trouble coming and ducks; a simpleton walks in blindly and is clobbered.

Five Practical Steps to Help Guard Your Blind Spot

  1. Prayer: the greatest weapon God has given us.
  2. The Word: a lamp to our feet; brings light in darkness.
  3. The Holy Spirit: our advisor, our source and our strength.
  4. The Church: spiritual family who help us in times of trouble; a place of refuge.
  5. Leaders and Pastors: they are placed in your life by God to help you see the bigger picture; your friends may not always be the best people to give you advice.
