New Sunday Series: Living Within The Lines
Society has removed some clear-cut lines that helped to govern our lives. Today, those lines seem to be becoming more and more blurred. As a result, families, singles and young people are finding it harder to live life inside those lines. God has given us His Word and His delegated authority. These help paint lines of values, principles and a Biblical world-view that give us a frame of reference when it comes to making choices.
Life is about choices - we are who we are today because of the choices we made yesterday. As we get back to the foundation of the Word and God and discover the principles that should govern us we find freedom, joy and life.
As parents we are to raise up our young people within these lines, so when they get on life’s road they know what they should do. This is brought home in the book of Proverbs:
Proverbs 22:6 (New Living Translation) - Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it.
In the Authorised Version of the Bible it uses the words ‘train up’. This means to teach by repetition. As parents and believers we are to highlight God’s lines daily, over and over again. When you grind these lines in, they will never leave you! It’s like driving; once you are on the road you know what you should do because of the lines. Each line carries a certain meaning behind it and it helps to keep you - as well as those around you - safe. However, some roads have no lines whatsoever. Then what do you do? Well, because you are used to driving within the lines, when you get on those roads you instinctively know which side you should be on, where you should stop, etc.
It’s the same with God’s Word. You may be in a situation with work, school, university or in a relationship where there are no lines of morality, of good. What do you do? Well, we don’t compromise but live within the lines that God’s Word has given us.
